I figured someone must have done this before, but couldn't find it.

Has anyone added the abbility to search since the users last login. IE new posts. This info is contained in U_Laston as unix time, so wouldn't it be simple to just have it do the search based on that calculation?

Here is a similar thread where we talked about it.

I think that Laston field will update to the current date the minute you log back in, so I don't think your theory works.

Note how the "last seen" pal on the index page will say "2 seconds" when you look at it yourself. Thus it would show you only posts posted in teh last few seconds.

I think it has to update that time field with every page view, because most people don't "log off" and thus it keeps updating until you stop viewing threads pages.

DOH,

Ok, I guess it would take an addition to the table. When logging in write to that table and only update on logins. Darn, thought it was sooo easy. Maybe too easy.:(

Yeah, I"ve thought long and hard about it.

But..... people don't always "log in" and "log out" most people jsut stay logged in and pop back to the forums. Thus you'd need to figure out a way have it keep track of it.

JustDave's idea (in that other thread) of "new since you last visited this page" sorta thing would allow you to visit the page, see all the threads and then the time stamp would be written. Or "new since last 'mark all read'" something to write the time stamp.

Of course, new post tracking is already in effect.... so it might just be cool to have a list of all your unread posts. But the way new posts are tracked still confuses me a bit, so I'm not sure how to go about it.
